Department of Blood and Tumor Diseases We are Akademiska Hospital – one of Sweden's leading university hospitals. Our Operations The Section for Oncologic Endocrinology is part of the Department of Blood and Tumor Diseases (BoT). The BoT department has approximately 300 employees. The Section for Oncologic Endocrinology has about 50 staff and provides outpatient and inpatient care for patients with neuroendocrine tumors. The section investigates, treats, and monitors patients with all types of neuroendocrine tumors (NET) regardless of origin. We also manage other endocrine tumors such as adrenocortical carcinoma and pheochromocytoma, as well as hereditary tumor syndromes such as MEN 1, 2, VHL, and SDH. We naturally see patients from the Uppsala region, but the majority of patients come from other regions and university hospitals as well as from abroad. Care is provided in multidisciplinary teams in close collaboration with units for pathology, endocrine surgery, clinical chemistry, radiology, nuclear medicine, cardiology, thoracic surgery, and others. Research activity is high. The unit is Sweden's only center certified as a Center of Excellence within the European organization ENETS for both GEP NET and Lung NET, at Akademiska Hospital, and an ERN center for NET.
