An Important Assignment Becoming a foster family is an opportunity to make a difference for children who need it most. There are several reasons why a child may need to live in a different home than their own. It could be due to parents' neglect, difficult circumstances such as violence or substance abuse, the child's own behavior, or the child being unaccompanied and arriving in Sweden without parents. There are different forms of foster care. When the foster family already has a relationship with the placed child, such as a relative or close friend, it is called a kinship care home.
