About the Social Services Department
Starting Points for Work and Operations
In Emmaboda, we don't want to wait for problems to grow; we want to meet people where they are, when it's needed most. We want to work preventively, close to our residents, and together with those we serve.
Needs are the starting point in work with the goal and ambition of a knowledge-based approach in accordance with the Social Board and Social Services Department's core values, where follow-up, reflection, and development are integral parts.
We are in the midst of a development journey toward a more preventive, accessible, and close social service. The transformation of social welfare involves several processes and areas within our society's welfare, such as Close Care, Coordinated Crime Prevention Work, and transitions toward Future Social Services according to the (new) Social Services Act.
We believe that collaboration is needed within the municipality but also with other municipalities, the region, authorities, and organizations to design the welfare that is needed with the available resources. We participate in SKR's learning process and together with Uppvidinge, Lessebo, and Högsby municipalities form one of the country's learning groups. Within Kalmar County, there are also networks for both operational areas of the Social Services Department through the Municipal Federation and through County-wide Management.
Organization
The Social Services Department is organized into two main operational areas: Elderly Care and Municipal Primary Healthcare, and Individuals, Family, and Support Services.
The Elderly Care and Municipal Primary Healthcare operational area is responsible for support and services as well as municipal health and medical care, primarily for elderly residents, but services can include residents of all ages.
Within the operational area, there are seven geographically distributed home care districts, four special housing facilities, and one short-term housing facility. The operational area also includes a staffing unit that serves both operational areas by ensuring staffing during illness and shorter absences.
Professionals active in the Elderly Care and Municipal Health and Medical Care operational area are largely nursing assistants, care assistants, nurses, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, and unit managers.
The Individuals, Family, and Support Services operational area covers services for children, young people, and adults without or with functional disabilities.
