WHAT DOES YOUR ASSIGNMENT INVOLVE? You will work as a property repair technician and, together with others, be responsible for optimizing the daily operations of our properties. Stockholm University's Baltic Sea Centre is seeking a Research Technician who will be responsible for the development and operation of various scientific instruments and sensor infrastructure at the Baltic Sea Centre's field station Askö Laboratory and on Stockholm University's (SU) own research vessel RV Electra. Stockholm University's Baltic Sea Centre is the hub for the university's research on the Baltic Sea. Activities are conducted both within the centre and in close collaboration with other institutions. Through an interdisciplinary approach, we contribute knowledge that supports authorities and other societal actors in working towards sustainable management of the Baltic Sea environment. An important part of our mission is to support marine research and education by providing advanced research infrastructure. At the Askö Laboratory in the Trosa archipelago, researchers and students have had access to a field station and research vessel since the 1970s. Our largest research vessel, R/V Electra af Askö, is equipped with modern marine measurement technology that enables both research and education in several marine disciplines. Duties The Baltic Sea Centre manages an extensive instrument collection that requires continuous monitoring, maintenance, and development. The instruments are used in research projects and include both portable field instruments and permanently installed equipment, such as mass spectrometers and oceanographic and geophysical measurement systems. The primary workplace is Askö, in the Trosa archipelago, but various meetings will occasionally take place at SU campus with researchers and other technical expertise. At Askö, you will be part of a team that works closely together to meet the needs of different research projects and field courses. The main duties of the research technician will be: to develop and maintain scientific equipment and electronic measuring instruments at the Askö Laboratory, to develop and maintain scientific equipment and electronic measuring instruments on RV Electra, to participate in national research cruises and support measurements such as geophysical surveying and sediment, water column, and atmospheric measurements. Responsibilities include the following: In collaboration with the staff at the Askö Laboratory as well as researchers and technicians at Stockholm University, to be responsible for the operation, development, and maintenance of the following electronic measuring instruments and research systems: geophysical measurement systems aboard the research vessel, such as multibeam echo sounder, sediment-penetrating sounder, and fisheries research sounder; oceanographic measurement systems, such as CTD (Conductivity, Temperature, Depth) and ADCP (Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler); ROV systems (Remotely Operated Vehicle); FlowCytoBot (automated flow cytometer and robotic microscope); and atmospheric measurement systems (mass spectrometers). Maintenance and development of IT infrastructure on RV Electra and measurement platforms. Active role in collaboration on data transfer/storage in the Baltic Sea Centre's databases and documentation of workflows. Participation in the planning and implementation of scientific cruises and field campaigns in collaboration with researchers and other staff. Qualifications Applicants must have an academic degree in engineering or natural science with technical competence that the employer can assess as equivalent. At least 1-2 years of work experience in mechanical/technical fields with practical experience in performing installations and repairs.
