About the Swedish Prison and Probation Service The Swedish Prison and Probation Service is growing – we are building new facilities, renovating, and expanding, and we are now seeking additional staff members. Our most important goal is to reduce recidivism – to break the cycle of crime. When we succeed, society becomes safer and more secure for everyone. We are the authority responsible for prisons, probation services, remand facilities, and prisoner transport. Job Description As a correctional officer, you will be part of a team where you have daily contact with clients. You can choose to work in a remand facility, a prison, or in the transport department. Remand Facility: Working in a remand facility focuses on care and security and is a job with clear procedures. Some people are held on remand for extended periods and only meet their lawyer and those who work at the facility. This places special demands on you as a correctional officer. Prison: Working in a prison is varied: care, surveillance, search, and security work are combined with release planning and counseling and motivational work. Working as a correctional officer means you can make a difference in other people's lives and contribute to a better society. To thrive and succeed in your role, it is important that you share the Swedish Prison and Probation Service's fundamental values of a humane view of people, respect for the individual, and the belief that people are capable of development. You will begin your employment at your work location where you will receive a three-week introduction. After a period of service, you will be offered a place in the Swedish Prison and Probation Service's mandatory basic training program, which comprises 8 weeks. You will receive a salary during the entire training period. During the probationary period, ongoing assessments will be made regarding your suitability for a permanent position. Qualifications Your personal qualities are important. As a correctional officer, you need to be secure, stable, have good self-awareness, good judgment, and integrity. Together with your colleagues, you drive the operations, so you need to have good collaboration skills and be clear in your communication. You should be able to act physically when required. For us, it is important that you share the Swedish Prison and Probation Service's fundamental values of a humane view of people, respect for the individual, and the belief in people's willingness and ability to develop. You are also aware of and understand how background, culture, and group affiliation affect you and others. Furthermore, through your approach, you are expected to contribute to everyone being treated equitably. We place great importance on personal suitability. We are looking for someone who has: Completed upper secondary education or other education combined with work experience that the Swedish Prison and Probation Service considers relevant Work experience, including in the form of seasonal work, temporary employment, or self-employment.
