Waste Engineer with Commitment and Drive for Sustainable Community Development In northern Dalarna, a commitment to community development and sustainability combines with a unique quality of life. With the mission to advance "a sustainable life – together," Nodava AB is responsible for managing and developing facilities for water supply, wastewater treatment, and waste management in Mora, Orsa, and Älvdalen municipalities. Nodava is a municipally-owned competence company with a focus on long-term thinking, public benefit, and building capacity to meet future environmental challenges.
Within the waste sector, operations are currently undergoing reform, and Nodava is transforming to meet requirements and owner needs based on new regulations aimed at reducing waste generation, increasing sorting rates, and minimizing waste's impact on the local environment. With the customer in focus, one of Nodava's goals is to contribute to sustainable community development by driving and sharing knowledge so that waste is seen as a resource. We want to achieve this through preventive and structured work. We will help ensure that less waste is generated and that waste that does arise is sorted for greater reuse. Our target for northern Dalarna by 2030 is to reduce total waste by 25% and incinerated waste by 50 percent. This includes transitioning to collecting packaging at source, that is, close to where waste is generated.
This position is part of the Development and Projects department, which is tasked with providing Nodava's owner municipalities with strategic and long-term guidance in meeting waste and water/sanitation development needs. Within the department, there are three waste engineers with overlapping areas of responsibility who work together to find solutions for how northern Dalarna will tackle upcoming challenges. We have long-term goals and strategies in place. Now we're looking for you to translate strategies into concrete solutions and implementation in cooperation with the operations department. Your Tasks
Initiate, drive, and participate in development projects within the scope of the assignment.
Establish reuse as an integrated part of recycling centers' operations and build partnerships with new recipients.
Conduct investigations of a more complex nature in accordance with agreements, legal requirements, regulations, and guidelines.
Develop and implement educational and informational materials to guide customers, schools, and businesses on sorting and waste management.
Prepare relevant materials for boards and owner municipalities.
Identify and drive development to create new digital and data-driven solutions within the operational area.
Monitor developments in the waste sector, follow trends, technological developments, and research results, as well as changes in laws and regulatory requirements.
Inform and conduct internal training initiatives for awareness and increased knowledge in line with strategies and strategic goals for sustainable community development.
Participate in and represent Nodava in various networks and organizations within your area of responsibility.
Your Profile
You have higher education in waste, environment, urban planning, or equivalent knowledge acquired in other ways. We appreciate that you have experience with strategic sustainability work in some form and possess relevant knowledge within the waste/recycling field. Knowledge of waste and environmental law is a merit.
We're looking for someone motivated by translating goals and strategies into implementation in collaboration with others. The assignment requires a holistic perspective combined with a strategic approach and the ability to weigh complex information and different types of considerations. Investigation experience is very important, and experience with environmental monitoring is an asset. The assignment requires strong ability to communicate clearly, well-articulated, and engagingly both verbally and in writing. You ensure that messages reach their audience and that expectations are clear for all affected parties.
You have a structured working method and also have experience leading projects and working project-based. You thrive in work situations that require you to be self-directed combined with collaboration with others in different formations. Since the position involves travel within Mora, Orsa, and Älvdalen, a B driver's license is required.
Your workplace will be at Nodava's offices in Orsa. The work is full-time. The position is a permanent employment with start as soon as agreed.
