We are now recruiting a university lecturer in Nordic languages. This is a temporary appointment for the period August 1, 2026 to December 31, 2026, with start date by agreement. Position Description and Responsibilities The position includes teaching at the undergraduate level in runology, Scandinavian studies, Swedish lexicon, Swedish grammar, and sociolinguistics, and at the advanced level thesis supervision and examination of degree projects. Teaching takes place both on campus and in web-based courses. The position consists of 80% teaching/administration and 20% professional development. Professional development time is typically used for research. In addition to teaching and research, the position includes teaching-related administration as well as personnel, subject, and planning meetings. Qualifications To be eligible for appointment as a university lecturer, an applicant must have demonstrated pedagogical skill and have completed a doctoral degree in linguistics with a focus on Nordic languages, or possess equivalent scientific competence, or have other professional skills that are relevant to the subject content and work tasks of the position. Strong language skills in Swedish (or another Scandinavian language) and English, as well as the ability to teach in these languages, are required for the position. Selection Criteria The selection criteria are: scientific and pedagogical skill in the field of Nordic languages, experience with thesis supervision and examination of degree projects, experience with work-based education, administrative skill, and experience with developmental work in Nordic languages. Other selection criteria include good collaborative ability and the competence and suitability otherwise needed to perform the work tasks well. Scientific skill shall be demonstrated through independent scientific production. Criteria for assessment include: - breadth and depth of research—quality and scope - originality of research - productivity - contribution to the international scientific community - positions within the scientific community - ability to competitively obtain external research funding - collaboration with the surrounding society Pedagogical skill for appointment as a university lecturer shall be demonstrated through documented experience of teaching on a scientific basis at the university. Criteria for assessing pedagogical skill in appointments on a scientific basis are: - ability to plan, implement, and evaluate teaching, and ability to supervise and examine students at all educational levels - ability to vary teaching methods and examination forms in relation to expected learning outcomes and the nature of the subject - experience with collaboration with the surrounding society in planning and implementing education - participation in the development of learning environments, teaching materials, and educational resources - a reflective approach to student learning and one's own role as a teacher Competence can be obtained through higher education pedagogy training, other education relevant to teaching at the university, or documented, proven experience of teaching at the university. Weighting of Selection Criteria Equal care shall be given to the assessment of pedagogical and scientific skill. When weighing these two criteria, scientific skill shall be given the greatest weight. Special weight shall be given to scientific and pedagogical skill in the field of Nordic languages. A large portion of the teaching content is focused on the core areas of historically oriented Scandinavian studies. When assessing scientific and pedagogical skill, particular weight shall therefore be placed on scientific and pedagogical skill within these core areas. Great weight shall be given to experience with thesis supervision and examination of degree projects and developmental work in Nordic languages. Weight shall be given to administrative skill and experience with work-based education. Good collaborative ability and the competence and suitability otherwise needed to perform the work tasks well shall be given great weight in the assessment.
