What We Offer You Nyströmska School is an educational center centrally located in Söderköping with students at upper secondary, adapted upper secondary, adapted junior high grades 7-9, and adult education. The school has a dedicated staff where many have worked for a long time. We are now seeking a special education teacher specializing in intellectual disabilities for our team, with responsibility for teaching mathematics and natural sciences to our students in the adapted upper secondary national program Health, Care and Social Services, and a special education teaching assignment for grades 7-9. We place knowledge and education in focus and our goal is for our students to develop as far as possible based on their abilities. With the motto "Close to You. Always." Nyströmska's focus is on seeing each student, helping them grow as individuals together, and preparing them for their future. The adapted upper secondary currently has 8 students in the Health, Care and Social Services program and 3 students in the individual program. The adapted junior high, grades 7-9, currently has 13 students studying subject-specific courses or subject areas. You will be part of the adapted upper secondary team. The school has several experienced colleagues in adapted education, as well as a development teacher specializing in adapted school. The school has an engaged student support team consisting of principals, special education teachers/special educators, study and career counselors, counselor, and school nurse. Job Description In your role as a special education teacher, you will primarily teach mathematics and natural sciences in close collaboration with your colleagues. The position includes your own planning, instruction and assessment, as well as mentorship. You are well familiar with the school's governing documents and work based on each student's needs and interests, individually as well as together with your colleagues. Your instruction is creative and aims to find strategies to strengthen your students, both academically and in their personal development. It is important for you to create conditions for good social interaction among students. In your professional role, you are also expected to be able to collaborate with other professionals and guardians, always with the student's best interest in focus. Qualifications We are looking for someone who is a licensed teacher with a special education degree specializing in intellectual disabilities and ideally with mathematics and natural sciences as your foundation, though Swedish is also a merit. You have experience working in adapted schools, knowledge of students with intellectual and developmental disabilities and the pedagogical tools needed to support them. You should be well versed in alternative and augmentative communication and an experienced user of assistive technology. You have worked on making lesson content accessible, for example through visual supports. We are looking for someone equipped with good social competence and collaboration skills. You are creative, solution-oriented, and responsive to students' individual needs. You create engagement and participation for both colleagues and students. You must be calm and pedagogical with great patience and a strong ability to create a sense of security for each student. Great importance is placed on personal suitability.
