Popis:

Lund University was founded in 1666 and is consistently ranked among the world's leading academic institutions. We have approximately 46,000 students and 8,500 employees in Lund, Helsingborg, and Malmö. We are united in our mission to understand, explain, and improve our world and the human condition. About the WorkplaceSciLifeLab (www.scilifelab.se), founded in 2010, is a hub for life science research in Sweden and a collaboration between Swedish universities. The employee will work at SciLifeLab Data Centre (DC), which is responsible for IT issues and research data management for SciLifeLab's technology platforms and other SciLifeLab-organized programs and activities, including the national research program for data-driven life science (DDLS). We have a national mission and operate services for life science data and e-infrastructure, as well as matters related to FAIR principles, open science, and data-driven research, in strong collaboration with national and international actors. With us, you have the opportunity to actively shape how IT is integrated into the future of health and environmental research, and work to promote openness, reproducibility, and maximum scientific impact from the large volumes of research data generated in the field. You will work with researchers, data engineers, data stewards, and systems developers in a rapidly growing, dynamic, and progressive team with a leading role in the country. The position is placed at Lund University, within SciLifeLab's Lund organizational unit, with reporting directly to its director. The work is led by the director of SciLifeLab Data Centre. Duties and ResponsibilitiesSciLifeLab Data Centre (DC) is seeking a manager for our scientific data services operational area. The area currently employs approximately 20 systems developers and data engineers located at several of our partner universities, focusing on the development, operation, and support of data services with scientific and bioinformatic content, such as for AI models and computational applications, FAIR sharing of research data for infectious diseases, biodiversity, image data, cell and molecular biology, etc. Services are developed based on needs from SciLifeLab's users and as part of SciLifeLab Data Centre's mission as a digital infrastructure provider. The work targets users within national infrastructure as well as within the Data-Driven Life Science (DDLS) program and Swedish life science researchers in general. A focus for the coming years is to build common integrative services for multimodal data generated at SciLifeLab's infrastructure platforms. As the manager of this area, you will be responsible for personnel and financial matters for the operational area, participate in our management group, and coordinate work within the area with other operational areas at DC. This includes, for example, areas for research data management, IT, and service management. You will also play a key role in DC's strategic work within SciLifeLab for digital infrastructure, and in our collaboration efforts with university administration, other national infrastructures (such as NAISS, SUNET, and SND), and international partners (such as EMBL, CSC, CERN, and VIB). DC has a strongly research-driven operation, and you will especially develop this aspect within our organization. You are expected to have extensive and international experience as a manager and researcher in bioinformatics and life science infrastructures, and to be able to take an active and leading role in developing and managing operations and organization within DC. You need to have strong personal experience as a researcher. A high ability to collaborate and communicate is required both as part of the management team, towards collaborating partners, and towards user groups. The position is based at Lund University, and you will especially develop DC's national collaboration in Lund and southern Sweden, but your role is a clear national assignment as a manager and requires good presence and the ability to lead a nationally distributed operation. Qualifications Requirements for the position: • You must have a doctoral degree in a relevant field, and at least ten years of experience as a manager with personnel and budget responsibility and strategic work at an international infrastructure within life science or bioinformatics. • Documented multi-year experience of your own research within life science/bioinformatics • Documented experience with large-scale data management, high-performance computing systems (HPC), GPU acceleration, and parallel file systems • Documented experience leading personnel and operations for bioinformatics support and development of bioinformatics services and tools • Documented experience securing competitive funding for your own projects and leading these as PI • Documented experience in training and education of researchers and technical personnel within life science • Documented experience in your own role as a systems developer with experience of containerization technologies, such as Docker • Excellent ability to communicate fluently in English, both orally and in writing Desirable/Meriting qualifications: • Knowledge of or interest in Swedish biomedical research and infrastructure • Experience working with Scrum or similar agile methods • Experience with strategic development of digital infrastructure Great weight will be placed on personal suitability. The applicant should have excellent collaboration skills, initiative, and good communication qualities, and be able to demonstrate active competency development relevant to the job description. As a person, you should be flexible, creative, and service-oriented. You should also be quality-conscious and goal- and results-oriented. Other Information The employment is permanent and full-time with a desired start date of September 1, 2026, or by agreement. A probationary period of 6 months may be applied. How to ApplyThe position is filled through the university's recruitment system. Your application should include a cover letter explaining why you are interested in the position and how the position matches your qualifications. Your application should also include a CV or equivalent, as well as anything else you wish to provide (copies of diplomas).
