About the Workplace The Department of Electrical and Information Technology conducts high-quality research across a wide range of areas in electrical engineering and computer science, from pure theoretical research to applied projects in close collaboration with industry. The department is at the forefront of international research in most of its fields. It comprises about 100 active researchers with focus on several research domains, including security and network systems, communication technology, integrated electronic systems, and electromagnetism and nanoelectronics. Specific Field Description Machine learning and artificial intelligence have received considerable attention over recent decades. Machine learning algorithms have been applied in many application domains, including the Internet of Things (IoT), autonomous systems, and medical and healthcare applications. The use of machine learning in these domains creates many new opportunities but also presents several major challenges, such as the complexity of machine learning algorithms and the reliability and trustworthiness of decisions made by machine learning algorithms. The purpose of this postdoctoral project is to address one of the major challenges in the machine learning field. The project will be adapted to your background and expertise, and you will work in an interdisciplinary research environment. An important part of the work is to develop the theoretical foundation for reliable machine learning and new algorithms to address challenges in this area. Therefore, you are expected to have a solid theoretical background in machine learning. Responsibilities As a postdoctoral researcher, your work will primarily involve conducting research. Teaching may also be included in your responsibilities, but no more than one-fifth of your working time. Within the scope of this position, there is an opportunity for three weeks of higher education pedagogy training. The purpose of the appointment is to develop your independence as a researcher and create opportunities for further career advancement. Your responsibilities will include: Research within the field of specialization. Teaching at undergraduate, advanced, and doctoral levels. Supervision of thesis students and doctoral candidates. Working to secure external research funding. Collaboration with industry and society. Administration related to the above tasks. Qualifications To be eligible for appointment as a postdoctoral researcher, you must have completed a doctoral degree, or a foreign degree deemed equivalent to a doctoral degree, in the field of the position. Evidence that the eligibility requirement is met must be submitted no later than when the employment decision is made. Primarily, applicants should have completed their doctorate no more than three years before the application deadline. If there are special reasons, the doctoral degree may have been completed earlier. Additional Requirements: Very good knowledge of English, both spoken and written. Very good documented knowledge of machine learning. Evaluation Criteria This is a merit-based position primarily focused on research. The position is intended as an initial step in your career, and evaluation of applicants will primarily be based on their scientific merits and potential as a researcher. Particular emphasis will be placed on scientific competence within the field. The following shall form the basis for evaluation of postdoctoral researchers: Strong ability to develop and conduct high-quality research. Pedagogical ability. Consideration will be given to how the applicant, through their experience and competence, is assessed to complement and strengthen research within the department/institution and contribute to its future development. Start date is as soon as possible by agreement, but no later than 2027-01-01. The position is time-limited according to the collective agreement, "Agreement on Time-Limited Employment as Postdoctoral Researcher."
