MSCA Doctoral Candidate in Neuroscience
Popis:
Lund University was founded in 1666 and is consistently ranked among the world's leading academic institutions. Here, approximately 46,000 students and 8,500 employees work across Lund, Helsingborg, and Malmö. We are united in our mission to understand, explain, and improve our world and the conditions for humanity. Description of the Organization The Stem Cells, Aging, and Neurodegeneration research group uses stem cells, cell reprogramming, and genome editing to study and develop treatments for neurodegenerative diseases and brain tumors. The group is led by Associate Professor Henrik Ahlenius and consists of two postdoctoral researchers, two researchers, and several master's students from diverse nationalities and professional backgrounds. The group is active at the Biomedical Center (BMC), Department of Experimental Medical Science, and participates in several strategic research areas (SFO) at Lund University in stem cells (StemTherapy), neurodegeneration (MultiPark), and cancer (LUCC). Learn more about the group HERE. We are now seeking an experienced and ambitious doctoral candidate who wants to expand and strengthen our expertise in advanced cell-based 3D tissue models and modeling of neurodegenerative diseases. As a workplace, we value an open, inclusive, and equal working environment. Project Description You will work on the continued development, validation, and application of new technologies for cell reprogramming, 3D tissue models, and genome-edited pluripotent stem cell-based models of Alzheimer's disease. The work includes both development of new models and use of established models to study the role of glial cells in Alzheimer's disease. This project is part of the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Doctoral Network VISI-ON-BRAIN, which aims to train doctoral candidates in cutting-edge strategies for modeling brain diseases. The overall goal of VISI-ON-BRAIN is to train a new generation of researchers with the skills required to drive the development of future therapies. Learn more about VISI-ON-BRAIN HERE and HERE. Project Reference: 101227124 Tasks and Responsibilities The primary responsibility of a doctoral candidate is to pursue doctoral education, so you will be both admitted as a student and employed at Lund University. You will be responsible for planning and carrying out research aimed at further developing and using genome editing of pluripotent stem cells and reprogramming of pluripotent cells into neural and non-neural cell types. The results from these studies will form the basis for development and analysis of glial cell interactions in advanced cell-based 3D tissue models of Alzheimer's disease. The work includes genome editing of pluripotent stem cells, cellular reprogramming, molecular cloning, vector design, omics techniques and bioinformatics, as well as cellular, molecular, and functional analyses, primarily performed in vitro. The primary task consists of laboratory work and data analysis. The position also includes presenting research results nationally and internationally, writing scientific articles, and participating in the preparation of research applications. Some supervision and teaching may also occur. You will be part of two dynamic strategic research areas and have access to numerous career development activities. What We Offer Lund University is a state authority, which means you receive special benefits, generous vacation, and a favorable occupational pension. As a doctoral candidate at Lund University, you are both admitted as a student and employed, which provides several benefits. Lund University offers generous support for parental leave and favorable offerings for exercise and health. Learn more about being admitted and employed at the university's website. As part of VISI-ON-BRAIN, you will be covered by the MSCA compensation package, which includes living allowances and mobility allowances, as well as family allowances if applicable, in accordance with the program's rules.
