In adapted school, students with intellectual disabilities study, often in combination with additional disabilities such as cerebral palsy/autism, visual impairment, hearing impairment, or physical mobility disabilities. We combine an important pedagogical mission with the care needs that exist. Our daily work is built on the understanding that structure and clear routines are cornerstones for our students' sense of security. In the classroom, there is typically one teacher and several teaching assistants who support the students and each other. We work in small groups with high staff density where each student's unique needs guide the day, much like in personal assistance or group housing, with the addition that our primary mission at school is an important pedagogical one. There are ceiling lifts and other assistive devices, but the most important tool is your presence and your ability to build relationships that create trust. Students study subjects and/or subject areas. 1 position(s). WORK TASKS Your main role as a teaching assistant in adapted school is to support students throughout the school day. Common work tasks include: Clarify the teacher's instructions during lessons, for example by communicating through verbal explanation, sign language support, sensory stimulation, or visual supports. When needed, conduct lessons based on the teacher's planning. Follow students' personal care plans, for example testing blood sugar, administering insulin injections, administering medications, and tube feeding. Support students with practical challenges during the day, for example toilet visits/diaper changes, recess activities, during meals, meeting students at pick-up, lifting and transfers. Work closely with teachers, student welfare teams, and other colleagues in a collaborative and well-functioning team. Maintain contact with guardians and relevant professionals in collaboration with the responsible teacher to support the student's development. Contribute actively to the school's collective work for a learning environment where all students have the opportunity to succeed. You work closely with the teaching staff, where you both receive instructions and collaborate on how the work should be performed. Your role includes frequent contact and close collaboration with other staff at the school and other professionals involved with the students. Contact with guardians is also part of your role. The position may involve working with one student, with several students, or providing support to all students in a classroom. As a teaching assistant, you contribute to students achieving the curriculum goals. Together with your team, you plan, implement, and document the pedagogical work in the classroom. You need to be flexible in your role, adapt your approach to what the situation requires, and have the sensitivity to meet each student/student group based on their individual circumstances on each particular day. Students with emotional outbursts and externalizing behavior are met with a low-affect approach. QUALIFICATIONS We are looking for someone who has a genuine interest in working with people and the ability to see different possibilities where others might see obstacles. To succeed in the role, you need to remain calm and focused in intensive situations and act in a controlled manner when circumstances change rapidly. You must be able to adapt your work approach to the student's condition on each day. You take responsibility for your tasks, see what needs to be done, and drive your work forward in collaboration with close colleagues, guardians, and other stakeholders in the school environment for the student's benefit. For the position of teaching assistant, you also need to: - Have completed education in pedagogy, alternatively care and welfare, or equivalent post-secondary education. - Have education and competence in TAKK and cerebral palsy, as well as experience with autism or multiple disabilities. - Have strong communicative skills in spoken and written Swedish. This is because according to the curriculum (Lgra22), you should organize and conduct the work so that the student receives support in their language and communication development. - Be calm, stable, flexible, clear, and have a professional demeanor. - Have good knowledge of low-affect interaction approaches. - Have previous experience working with students with special needs. - Be able to work physically, as lifting and transfers with assistive devices occur as a natural part of daily activities. - B-category driver's license for small buses with manual transmission is a requirement. Employment type: Permanent employment. Duration: Indefinite. The position is filled provided that it does not need to be reserved for existing employees or that the conditions for recruitment change.
