PhD Student in Human Ecology

Popis:

Lund University was founded in 1666 and is consistently ranked among the world's leading universities. We have approximately 46,000 students and 8,500 employees in Lund, Helsingborg, and Malmö. We are united in our mission to understand, explain, and improve our world and people's conditions. Job Responsibilities: The doctoral education program comprises 240 credits (equivalent to four years of full-time studies). It formally concludes with the doctoral student publicly defending their printed doctoral dissertation. The holder of a doctoral position has the primary responsibility to successfully complete doctoral-level education that culminates in a doctoral degree. Employment regulations for full-time doctoral positions are specified in the Higher Education Ordinance, Chapter 5, Sections 1-7. The doctoral student is expected to actively participate in the department's research and teaching environment, particularly within the Human Ecology Division, and may be required to perform institutional duties, mainly teaching, comprising approximately 20 percent of full-time work. The doctoral position is linked to the project "Swedish Electricity," a multidisciplinary collaboration between universities in Lund, Gothenburg, and the University of Borås. The project aims to critically examine and understand how nationalism influences the development of energy systems and how nationalist narratives around electricity relate to issues of exploitation, justice, and preparedness. (see https://portal.research.lu.se/sv/projects/den-svenska-elen-kunskap-och-kommunikation-mellan-beredskap-natio/) As a doctoral student, you will conduct independent research within the project framework in a multidisciplinary research team. The doctoral student is affiliated with the part of the project addressing historical developments and is expected to contribute research on these topics from a comparative and critical perspective, focusing on the historical development and changes of the Swedish electricity system. We therefore welcome research ideas aligned with the project's objectives. As a doctoral student, you are expected to publish your own or co-authored research and work closely with the project team, contributing actively to it. You are expected to present results at national and international conferences. During your studies, you will have the opportunity to participate in activities (courses, workshops, etc.) organized by Lund Centre for Disaster Science and Resilience (LUPREP). Eligibility Requirements: Basic eligibility for admission to doctoral education is held by those who have: - completed a degree at the advanced level - completed course requirements of at least 240 credits, of which at least 60 credits are at the advanced level, or - acquired substantially equivalent knowledge in another manner within or outside the country. Employment of doctoral students is regulated in the Swedish Legislation Collection 1998:80. Only those who are or have been admitted to doctoral education may be employed as doctoral students. When filling such a position, the student's ability to benefit from doctoral education shall be the primary consideration. In addition to pursuing studies, those appointed to doctoral positions may be required to work with teaching duties, research, and administration, according to special provisions in the ordinance. Evaluation Criteria: The most important evaluation criterion is the ability and potential to conduct qualified research in an area relevant to the position. Based on submitted documents, a comprehensive assessment will be made of the applicant's qualifications. Assets for the position include: 1) experience with environmental and energy history studies, including archival research; 2) experience working with critical multidisciplinary perspectives. The project is historical in nature and requires the ability to analyze material written in Swedish; therefore, documented proficiency in Swedish, both spoken and written, is required. For applicants without a Swedish secondary school diploma, a certificate demonstrating language proficiency is required. Application: The application must contain: A cover page of maximum 300 words containing a brief description of yourself as an applicant and what makes you suitable as a doctoral student in the described project. Upload as a PDF file. A document that presents an overview of a research idea that relates to the project. This is uploaded as a PDF file. The research outline is viewed as a work sample and an indication of your research interests. It is not a binding document where you must conduct the exact research described. The document must contain the following headings (each should not exceed 200 words, excluding references): a) Societal relevance b) Academic relevance/research gap (with references to key works) c) Theoretical approaches/key concepts (with references to key works) d) Methodology and possible empirical material e) Expected scientific contribution Curriculum vitae. Upload as a separate PDF file. An example of independent academic work. Usually your master's thesis. Upload as a separate PDF file. If available, copies of scientific publications authored or co-authored by you. Upload as a separate PDF file. Copies of certificates and diplomas. The diploma/degree certificate is uploaded as a separate PDF file named "examensbevis." Names and contact information for 2 people we can contact for personal reference (to be filled in the system). Applications must be in English and submitted electronically through Lund University's application portal. Terms: Fixed-term employment for four years according to HE 5 Chapter 7§.
