Description of the Workplace The research group for neurodegenerative diseases focuses on defining and understanding biological processes in Alzheimer's disease and other neurodegenerative diseases. We analyze large datasets collected from patients and cognitively healthy volunteers who undergo comprehensive testing with neuroimaging, biomarker measurements, and neuropsychological tests. Our group uses advanced statistical tools to analyze these unique and state-of-the-art datasets to model processes related to aging and disease. As a postdoctoral researcher, you will join a growing interdisciplinary team consisting of neuroscientists, statisticians, biologists, and engineers engaged in advancing our understanding of neurodegenerative diseases. The research group is led by Dr. Jacob Vogel, and the position is located at the Biomedical Center (BMC) in Lund. Duties and Responsibilities As a research associate, 50% of your working time will be devoted to research, while the remaining 50% will consist of laboratory administrative tasks. Research duties will involve support for neuroimaging or AI projects (depending on the applicant's expertise) ongoing in the laboratory. This may include data curation, data processing, or data analysis. There is also an opportunity to lead an independent project. Laboratory administrative duties may include support with processes related to recruitment, procurement, planning of social activities, documentation, mentoring, management of digital infrastructure, website administration, and/or communication. Other duties may include: data curation and data processing; development, editing, or execution of computational scripts; presentation of data and results at internal and external research meetings; authoring scientific manuscripts; informal mentoring and knowledge sharing with colleagues; and authoring grant applications and/or research stipend proposals. Other duties may also occur. Qualifications The following qualifications are required for this position: - PhD in neuroscience, engineering, statistics, quantitative biology, physics, mathematics, or a related field - Excellent communication skills in English, both oral and written - The applicant must be thorough, detail-oriented, and demonstrate strong intrinsic motivation - Good organizational and judgment skills combined with the ability to work independently, with high responsibility and initiative - Competence in computational programming (e.g., in Python, R, bash, etc.) - Ability to independently conduct large-scale data analyses - Documented research productivity The following qualifications are meritorious: - Experience with curation, preprocessing, and/or analysis of neuroimaging data - Documented experience with deep learning - Experience with and good knowledge of high-performance cluster-based computing - Experience with git and GitHub - Knowledge of best practices in reproducible research and open science Other Information The employment is a fixed-term appointment (SÄVA) for 12 months with a preliminary start date of September 1, 2026, or by agreement.
