The Swedish Prison and Probation Service (Statens institutionsstyrelse, SiS) is a government agency responsible for individualized compulsory care for young people with complex psychosocial issues and for adults with substance abuse disorders. SiS also manages closed youth care. We operate youth homes and residential facilities for adults with substance abuse issues throughout the country. SiS Youth Home Tysslinge, located outside Södertälje, receives non-school-age boys with psychosocial issues, as well as issues related to criminal activity and substance abuse. Job Description SiS Youth Home Tysslinge is a maximum-security institution that receives young people with high risks of threats, violence, and elopement. The institution has seven units in total that receive young people placed under the Care of Young People Act (LVU) and young people sentenced under the Closed Youth Care Act (LSU). One of the units consists of places for young people who are cared for in solitary conditions (VIE) during a period. The majority of our young people are often in legal proceedings or already convicted of serious crimes and have connections to criminal networks. In your role as treatment pedagogue/treatment assistant, you work in a team and together you are responsible for ensuring that the young people in our care receive the structure, security, care, and treatment they need. We meet young people in crisis, which means we support the individual in their daily life through individually tailored and qualified care and motivation work with clear structures. With the support of your and your colleagues' knowledge in care and treatment work, you actively contribute to fulfilling treatment plans. Documentation is an important part of your work for planning and monitoring treatment. During daytime hours, you also function as a student assistant and contribute to the young people's schooling and leisure activities. Because SiS Youth Home Tysslinge has the highest security classification within SiS, you need to work with high risk awareness. You contribute to maintaining security in accordance with our written guidelines and procedures. This is a job for someone who can stay the course and who wants to create security and safety in the young people's often very difficult life situations. The work is often demanding but also stimulating, joyful, and varied. It involves conflict management and in some cases physical interventions, for which you as an employee will receive mandatory training. As a state civil servant, it is important that you act professionally and in accordance with objectivity and legal certainty. You share our vision of being a place for change, which permeates our approach, commitment, and attitude. As a new employee, you will complete SiS basic training. The training combines theory with guided introduction and equips you for the treatment role in SiS operations. Employment begins with a mandatory introduction week, which is a prerequisite for starting work on the unit. The first introduction week will take place at Tysslinge week 35. The majority of our work shifts are long, usually between 10 to 13 hours, but with more days off as compensation. Furthermore, you have a very good ability to create good relationships, engagement, and participation with our young people. As a person, you are secure in yourself and you contribute to a good work environment with other staff. You have good communicative skills, can remain calm even in pressured situations, and consistently follow laws, regulations, and procedures. You also find it easy to collaborate with different professions as well as internal and external partners and enjoy sharing your knowledge with colleagues. As a treatment pedagogue, you must have: Complete upper secondary education Diploma from a 2-year post-secondary education program at a folk high school or vocational higher education institution (KY/YH) focused on social/pedagogical treatment work or a diploma from higher education that we consider equivalent Experience working with young people Good Swedish language skills, both spoken and written Under the new Social Services Ordinance (5 ch. 4§ Social Services Ordinance (2025:468)), we only hire individuals who do not meet the requirement of at least two years of post-secondary education under special exceptions. In such cases, these individuals are hired for the position of treatment assistant. Desirable qualifications: Class B driver's license Experience working with young people in vulnerable situations Training in MI (motivational interviewing) We place great importance on personal suitability.
