About the Workplace Surteskolan needs a substitute classroom teacher for grade 4 at the end of spring term 2025 as well as school year 26/27. Surteskolan is an F-6 school located just north of Gothenburg. The school is beautifully situated on a hill surrounded by forest and has approximately 220 students. What distinguishes Surteskolan are our small classes with 17-23 students each, divided into two teams—lower and middle grades—but collaborating across the entire F-6 school. We are a small school where people know each other well. Pedagogical staff, student welfare, administration, cleaning, and food services are in constant dialogue to find good solutions for our students. Surteskolan is close enough to Gothenburg to be classified as Zone A for Västtrafik. The commuter train takes you from Central Station to Surte in 10 minutes. Job Responsibilities We are looking for someone with a strong commitment to teaching and particularly strong ability to quickly build good, trusting relationships. You will take on the responsibility of leading a group that needs to find security and an environment conducive to learning in order to reach grade 6 with good results. Grade 5 consists of 21 students in one class. You will substitute for a teacher going on parental leave in May 2026. The assignment involves mentoring the class on your own, but you will have support from in-class resources as well as the student welfare team and a social pedagogue with a responsibility for creating a sense of security at the middle grade level. Qualifications We are looking for you who are a certified teacher. We are also interested in newly graduated teachers or those with ongoing teacher education. Other education in leadership and pedagogy can be a plus. You will teach social studies, English, and Swedish. Other subjects may be added. The assignment requires a strong ability to quickly create good relationships with students as well as clear leadership that creates security and structure. You have good knowledge of national curriculum guidelines and create trusting relationships with students, colleagues, and guardians. With a positive approach, you build on each student's ability to develop socially and academically and work closely with other educators at the school. You have clear communication, understand the importance of being a team player, and contribute a positive spirit. You are flexible, resourceful, and have a solution-oriented focus with the student's development and best interests at the center.
