About Student Health Services Student health services in Smedjebacken Municipality supports the municipality's six primary school units and consists of medical, psychosocial, psychological, and sociopedagogical competencies. Together we work to promote students' health, learning, development, and attendance. The working group includes three school nurses, three student counselors, and two sociopedagogues, one of whom works within a three-year project focused on school attendance. School nurses are responsible for health consultations, vaccinations, and medical follow-ups. Student counselors contribute psychosocial competence and counseling support, while sociopedagogues work particularly to support student attendance and strengthen collaboration between school, student, and home. As a school physician, you become an important part of student health services' medical efforts. You serve as medical support to the school nurses and contribute with medical assessments, advice, and collaboration on matters concerning students' health and schooling. The position is 10%. Student health services are led by the operations manager for student health services, who also serves as school psychologist. Responsibilities As a school physician, you contribute medical expertise within student health services' medical efforts. The assignment is carried out in close collaboration with school nurses and the rest of student health services. The assignment includes, among other things: making medical assessments for special needs evaluations and before psychological/neuropsychological evaluations performing growth, puberty, back, and other somatic assessments assessing medical issues related to school absences assessing and, if needed, referring students with overweight/obesity handling vaccination matters and planning vaccinations outside the regular childhood vaccination program assessing need for referral in cases such as scoliosis, hearing impairment, growth deviation, puberty deviation, or suspected medical/genetic causes of learning difficulties providing medical support to school nurses in ongoing work participating in multidisciplinary team meetings, collaboration meetings, or other student health forums when needed contributing advice or in-house training to student health personnel and school staff coordinating with, for example, child and adolescent psychiatric services, habilitation services, health centers, social services, and other relevant actors You are responsible for ensuring that your medical assessments are conducted in a patient-safe, professional, and documented manner. The assignment is primarily consultative, evaluative, and supportive, with a focus on contributing to students' health, development, and ability to manage their schooling. Qualifications The position requires that you: are a licensed physician with authorization to work as a physician in Sweden have good knowledge of Swedish, both spoken and written can perform medical assessments, document, and refer in a patient-safe manner are well versed in healthcare regulations, confidentiality, and patient safety can work consultatively and collaborate with school nurses, student health services, principals, and external healthcare and support providers have a driver's license (category B) Meritorious: experience working as a school physician experience with student health services' medical efforts experience working with children and young people specialist competence in pediatrics and adolescent medicine, general medicine, school health, or other relevant medical field experience with medical assessments related to special needs evaluations, psychological/neuropsychological evaluations, school absences, growth, puberty, overweight/obesity, or vaccinations experience with consultative work with school nurses, student health services, or other professionals experience collaborating with, for example, child and adolescent psychiatric services, habilitation services, health centers, social services, or other actors knowledge of the school's mission and how medical factors can affect students' learning, attendance, and development Personal Qualities We are looking for someone who is confident in their profession and has a strong ability to work independently, in an organized manner, and with patient safety in mind. You can prioritize and provide clear advice based on student health services' and the school's needs. The role requires good collaboration skills and a consultative working approach. You have an easy time building trust in interactions with children, young people, guardians, and staff. We appreciate if you are attentive, analytical, and solution-oriented and can contribute a medical perspective in the school context. Since the assignment is limited in scope but involves several schools, you need to be flexible and clear in your working approach. We Offer We offer a part-time position as a school physician covering 10%. The work takes place during daytime and does not involve night shifts, weekend work, or on-call duties. You work in close collaboration with school nurses, other student health services, and the schools' student health teams. Salary and start date are subject to agreement.
