Do you want to work strategically and developmentally with children's and students' reading? Mariestad Municipality is now seeking a coordinating school librarian for grades F-9 to strengthen collaboration between the public library and primary school. This position is a 50% permanent employment placed at Mariestad Public Library, which is part of Bibliotek Mellansjö. The assignment is carried out in close collaboration with the primary schools in the municipality according to a cooperation agreement between the Culture and Leisure Department and the Education Department. The purpose of the position is to ensure equivalent and long-term school library activities and to strengthen the school's reading promotion and information literacy. 1 position(s). WORK TASKS As a coordinating school librarian, you have a key role in the collaboration between the public library and schools. Your assignment includes, among other things: Coordination and Collaboration: • Be the coordinator between school library-responsible teachers and the public library. • Plan and coordinate class visits, book talks, and library introductions at the public library. • Call and lead planning meetings. Reading Promotion Work: • Provide support and guidance to school staff in planning and implementing reading promotion initiatives. • Contribute literary knowledge to school library-responsible teachers with book recommendations based on themes, subjects, and students' different reading levels. • Participate in reading projects, book circles, themed periods, and other reading activities. Competence Support to School Libraries: • Support school library-responsible teachers in selection, purchasing, and media collection development. • Support school library-responsible teachers regarding the school's work with information search, source criticism, and digital literacy. • Support ensuring that school library activities are carried out in line with curricula and governance documents. System and Operations Support: • Responsible for introduction and training in the library system Koha for relevant personnel. • Act as support and contact point to management when needed. QUALIFICATIONS We are looking for you who have: • A degree in library and information science. • Good knowledge of literature and media, particularly with a focus on children and young people. It is meriting if you have: • Knowledge of school governance documents and the pedagogical role of school libraries. • Experience working with school libraries or reading promotion work for children and young people. • Experience in collaboration between different activities. • Familiarity with library systems, preferably Koha. Personal Qualities: You are structured, communicative, and have an ease for collaborating with different professions. You thrive in an independent role with coordinating responsibility and have a strong commitment to children's and young people's reading and learning. We are looking for someone who is driven, structured, and has strong collaborative abilities. The assignment is comprehensive and requires that you can work independently, take initiative, and at the same time be responsive to the different conditions of the schools. You have the ability to: • build and develop functional collaborations between different professions • take initiative and translate needs into concrete, sustainable working methods • be clear in your role, set boundaries, and maintain structure in an assignment with many contact points • work long-term, coordinatively, and strategically. It is important that you are confident that the role does not involve work as a direct school librarian, but that your assignment is to support, guide, and strengthen the teachers who are responsible for school library activities. You therefore need to be pedagogical, communicative, and have an understanding of the school's mission and everyday work, without taking over the operational work at the schools yourself.
