Postdoctoral Researcher in Medicinal Chemistry
Description:
Would you like to work with organic synthesis and medicinal chemistry supported by competent and friendly colleagues in an international environment? Would you prefer an employer that invests in sustainable employee relations and offers secure, favorable working conditions? Welcome to apply for a postdoctoral position at Uppsala University. The Department of Medicinal Chemistry at Uppsala University is a strong and international research environment. The department has approximately 85 employees and brings together doctoral students, teachers, researchers, and administrators in a creative and open setting. You will work in the Drug Design and Drug Development research group at Uppsala University. The research group's work is primarily focused on the design and synthesis of molecules in early drug discovery as well as the development of new methods for organic synthesis. The research group is part of the Department of Medicinal Chemistry and consists of approximately 15 senior researchers and doctoral students, many with an international background. The project is a collaborative effort within the JPIAMR-funded project FunHitDisco. Responsibilities There is significant societal need for new antifungal medicines, where the identification of new molecular starting points for further development is central. The project is part of the international FunHitDisco consortium, which brings together research groups from four European countries. Within Moodie's research group, the postdoctoral researcher will synthesize hit compounds identified through RNA display technology and natural product screening. Additionally, analogues will be synthesized to study structure–activity relationships (SAR) and optimize the compounds' drug-like properties. The main task is to lead and participate in the research project. Your work may include supervising thesis students, teaching, or equivalent activities. The position involves documentation of laboratory work as well as planning and evaluation of data and partial responsibility for compiling manuscripts. You are also expected to present research results at project meetings and seminars. Qualification Requirements Doctoral degree in chemistry, biology, biomedicine, pharmacy, or related fields, or a foreign degree deemed equivalent to a degree in these subjects. The degree must be completed by the time the employment decision is made. Preferably, the degree should have been completed within the last three years. When calculating the three-year period, the basis is the final application deadline. If there are special circumstances, the degree may have been completed earlier.
