Postdoctoral Researcher in Cell Biology – CRISPR Perturbation and High-Content Imaging
Description:
Department of Pharmaceutical Biosciences The Department of Pharmaceutical Biosciences is an interdisciplinary environment where 10 research groups work to contribute to better medicines and a healthier world. With laboratories in the heart of Uppsala Biomedical Centre and Sweden's only Faculty of Pharmacy, we form a vital engine in the development of education and research within the pharmaceutical sciences. More information about the department and its activities can be found at uu.se/farmbio. We offer a postdoctoral position within a NEST initiative funded by the Wallenberg National Program for Data-Driven Life Science (DDLS) and the Wallenberg AI, Autonomous Systems and Software Program (WASP). The project, Time-Resolved Imaging and Multi-Channel Evaluation of Cellular Dynamics (TIMED), is a five-year collaboration between researchers at Uppsala University, Chalmers University of Technology, and Karolinska Institutet. Within the TIMED project, we are developing new methods to study cancer and its dynamics by integrating artificial intelligence and data analysis with time-series approaches. By studying dynamic biological processes, such as cell behavior and responses over time, we enable systematic characterization of fundamental cellular processes at large scale. Duties The project involves establishing cell line panels and developing and applying CRISPR-based perturbation systems combined with morphological profiling to map how genetic changes affect cellular phenotypes. A central scientific goal is to use high-content imaging of living and fixed cell lines to link genotype to morphological and functional phenotype, and to interpret biological responses in terms of signaling pathways. Within the TIMED project, you will collaborate with doctoral students and senior researchers with complementary expertise in image and data analysis, artificial intelligence, and cancer biology. More specifically, you will: Develop and validate stable genetically modified cell lines. Plan and perform CRISPR perturbation experiments in cell lines. Conduct high-content imaging of live cells using the laboratory's automated systems. Interpret results and place them in a biological context. Contribute to data analysis to link genetic perturbations to phenotypic outcomes. Qualifications PhD degree in a relevant area involving experimental laboratory work. The degree must be completed by the time the employment decision is made. Primarily, candidates should have completed their degree no more than three years ago. When calculating the three-year period, the deadline for applications is the starting point. If there are special reasons, such a degree may have been completed earlier. Experience with molecular biology techniques for cell engineering. At least three years of practical experience with cell culture and quantitative cell-based assays. Experience with high-content fluorescence microscopy, automated microscopy, and image analysis. Good collaboration skills and experience working across research group or institutional boundaries. Very good oral and written communication skills in English. Great emphasis is placed on personal suitability, motivation, and genuine interest in research within the field. About the Position Fixed-term employment for 24 months according to central collective agreement. Full-time position. Start date September 1, 2026, or by agreement. Location: Uppsala.
