In spring 2017, Falun Municipality, together with other education authorities in and outside Dalarna, initiated a collaboration with Högskolan Dalarna with the goal of increasing the number of qualified teachers in our schools. Based on a thorough assessment, we decided to offer a unique opportunity for motivated students to earn a teaching degree by combining studies with paid work. Our initiative has proven to be highly appreciated. Now, an online work-integrated subject teacher education program for grades 7–9 with the subject combination Mathematics and Physical Education and Health will also start in fall 2026. The education combines 75% studies with work as a teacher at a school for 50%. This way, university studies can be related to your own experiences from pedagogical activities, while experiences from work as a teacher are valuable for your studies at the university. The education is online and structured so that instruction can be scheduled during two fixed days per week, and work at the school takes place three fixed days per week. When you study work-integrated subject teacher education for grades 7–9, you will be qualified to teach Mathematics and Physical Education and Health. The education consists of three parts: - Subject studies including didactics in Mathematics and Physical Education and Health. - Courses in educational sciences core, which include teaching and learning, leadership, school organization, assessment, and social relationships. - Work-based education at the school where you hold your teacher trainee position. - Salary is at least 18,900 kronor/month. - You can apply for study support from CSN. - You are tied to a teaching position in Falun Municipality throughout your studies. - The teacher contract is renewed once per year, provided that mutual interest continues. - The employment consists of 50% teaching at the school and 75% study pace for the subject teacher program. - After completing your studies, you can apply for teacher certification. Job Duties Teacher Trainee If you want to become a teacher, you now have a unique opportunity to combine your studies with work thanks to our work-integrated program and become employed as a teacher trainee. By studying and working simultaneously, you can finance your teacher education without taking out loans. You also receive a unique education that, thanks to the combination of theory and practical work, gives you an enviable advantage. The program is aimed at you who work or want to work as a teacher in grades 7–9 of primary school in the subjects Physical Education and Health and Mathematics. Qualifications Personal qualities and experience: We are looking for you who handle challenges in a positive and solution-focused manner. Your ability to work both independently and in a group is crucial for success in the role. You possess leadership qualities that are suitable for the role of a teacher and have the ability to reflect on your own learning and learning style. You have good communication skills in both speech and writing. Finally, we place great importance on experience working as an unqualified teacher, substitute, or in another role within a school.
