Group Leader, Family Care

Description:

Värmdö is the meeting place of the archipelago, combining the quiet beauty of nature with a more urban lifestyle. Our mission is not one but many: schools, properties, social services, harbors, healthcare, libraries, care, and much more. We work to ensure that all Värmdö residents can live a rich and free life. We want to be the ones who make possible the dream of a vibrant, secure environment for home, family, and business. For us to fully succeed, we need different competencies and must work together for a common and trustful work culture, built on courageous, responsible employees who understand the needs and wishes of our residents. Our Operations Social services in Värmdö Municipality is an operation in active development. We work to ensure that residents who meet us experience accessibility, professional treatment, and participation in the handling of their matters. Our children and youth unit is characterized by a good work climate and a culture where employees are given the conditions to grow and develop in their roles. We are currently in an exciting phase. Like other social services across the country, we are working on the transition to the new social services act, which means a changed way of working with greater focus on early and preventive measures. In parallel with this, we are reviewing how the family care group should be organized going forward – we are exploring the possibility of transforming the group into a placement group with an expanded mandate. This means that as a group leader, you are stepping into a role where you not only lead an existing group, but also help shape it. The group is growing from today's six employees to nine or ten, and you have an active role in building the team, defining work methods, and creating the structures the group needs to function well in its new role. Your Assignment As a group leader, you are the immediate manager of a group of 6–10 social workers within the family care group, consisting of child social workers, foster care social workers, and contact social workers. You have operational responsibility for the group, which means you lead and distribute the daily work within the exercise of authority and ensure legally sound case handling based on relevant legislation. A central part of the assignment is to actively work with both team and group processes. You create conditions for a well-functioning team where cooperation, trust, and shared responsibility are at the center. Although formal workplace responsibility lies with the unit manager, we place great emphasis on you as a group leader actively contributing to a good work environment – you notice early signals in the group, manage dynamics, and support your employees in their daily work. You coach and support social workers in their professional practice with a special focus on strengthening work to create safe homes for children. You actively work to ensure that Signs of Safety permeates case handling, and you support social workers in applying the method in meetings with children, young people, and their families. The voice of the child and the best interests of the child are always the starting point, and you contribute to ensuring that both children and biological parents are made participants and given influence in their matters. You work closely with your group leader colleagues with a holistic perspective on operations – you lead together to ensure quality, equivalence, and development across the entire unit. Your Experience You are a leader with genuine commitment to both people and operations. You take responsibility, build trust, and motivate your employees to grow in their roles. You are accustomed to leading in complex environments and thrive at being the support the group needs to function well together. You are clear in your communication and create security by being predictable, present, and consistent. You set direction, provide feedback, and ensure that expectations and assignments are well-anchored in the group. For you, clarity is not just a way to lead – it is a way to show respect for your employees. You have a holistic view and the ability to see the individual, the group, and the operation simultaneously. You understand how individual decisions affect the whole and actively contribute to the unit moving in the same direction. You can hold together the operational and strategic perspectives and always ensure that the best interests of the child and family are the shared compass direction.
