Occupational Therapist – A Job Where Everyday Life Really Matters
Description:
Job Responsibilities Occupational Therapist in Primary Care – A job where everyday life really matters As a valued colleague is retiring after many years with us, we are now looking for you – an expert in what matters most: people's daily lives. Here it's not just about diagnoses, but about getting life to function again. A typical day might start with a meeting with someone who recently experienced hand pain and can no longer manage their job or morning routines. You analyze, test, try assistive devices, and find solutions that enable them to button their jacket, cook a meal, or return to work. Small things – that make a big difference. Your next patient might be someone you visit at home. You make a home visit to an elderly person who is beginning to struggle with self-care and risks needing to leave their home. You walk through their living space together, review obstacles and opportunities, and suggest adaptations – perhaps grab bars in the shower, a shower chair, or rearranging furniture to make daily life smoother. With the right measures, the person can continue living independently in their own environment – safely and with maintained quality of life. In primary care, the breadth of work is what makes the job both challenging and enjoyable. You meet: people with orthopedic problems patients recovering from neurological illness stress-related health issues elderly individuals needing support to remain living at home You balance individual visits with teamwork alongside physiotherapists and dietitians. There is room here to think creatively and find solutions tailored to this specific person – not "a standard patient." And perhaps the best part – you often see results quickly. When someone tells you they managed to shop independently again, could return to work, or have the energy for family life – then you know your work made a real difference. In short: Being an occupational therapist in primary care is a varied, independent, and meaningful job where you help people reclaim their everyday lives – on their own terms. If you are a licensed occupational therapist drawn to the opportunities and variety that comes with working in primary care, we welcome your application. In more detail, the work includes: Activity and functional assessment/evaluation/training, advice and support on self-care, prescription of assistive devices and information about products and technology, assessment of housing and surrounding environment, and environment-focused measures such as home modifications. Collaborate with other care providers, mentor and support family members and care staff. At our clinic, we work with patients with hand-related problems both individually and in groups, perform work capacity assessments, dementia evaluations, and patient education. We Offer An engaged team and close, supportive leadership Flexible working hours with good work-life balance Good opportunities to influence operations and develop in your role A stable and well-functioning clinic with clear procedures Generous wellness benefits, collective agreement, and good opportunities for professional development Qualifications You are a licensed occupational therapist. Previous experience working in primary care and experience with documentation in Take Care are advantageous. Personal Qualities We place great emphasis on personal qualities.
