In spring 2017, Falu Municipality, together with additional school authorities in and outside Dalarna, began a collaboration with Högskolan Dalarna with the goal of increasing the number of qualified teachers in our schools. Based on a thorough assessment, we decided to offer a unique opportunity for motivated students to earn a teacher degree by combining studies and paid work. Our initiative has proven to be appreciated. Before last year's term start, we had far more applicants than available positions, which is reason enough to continue with this unique initiative. We are already seeing results in our schools, as the reinforcement in the classrooms is immediate and our students experience the combination of work and studies as a winning formula. - The salary is at least 18,900 kronor/month. - You can apply for financial aid from CSN. - You will be employed in a teaching position in Falu Municipality throughout your studies. - The teaching contract is renewed once per year, provided there is mutual interest. - The employment consists of 50% teaching at the school and 75% study pace for the elementary teacher program. - After completing your studies, you can apply for teacher certification. Job Responsibilities Teacher Candidate If you want to become a teacher—now you have a unique opportunity to combine your studies with work thanks to our work-integrated program and be employed as a teacher candidate. By studying and working at the same time, you can finance your teacher education without having to take out loans. You also receive a unique education that, thanks to the combination of theory and practical work, gives you an enviable head start. The program is aimed at you who work or want to work as a teacher in elementary grades 4–6. The education prepares you to teach Swedish, mathematics, and English as well as science and technology or social studies. The study pace is 75% and comprises 240 college credits. The study location is Campus Falun. Work at school, 50%. Throughout your studies, you will simultaneously hold a teaching position in Falu Municipality under the supervision of experienced teachers, instructing students in grades 4–6. Qualifications Personal qualities and experience: We are looking for you who face challenges in a positive and solution-focused manner. Your strong ability to work independently as well as in groups is essential for success in the role. You possess leadership skills considered appropriate for the role of teacher and have the ability to reflect on your own learning and teaching style. You have strong communication skills both verbally and in writing. Finally, we place great emphasis on experience working as an unqualified teacher, substitute teacher, or other roles within schools. Terms of Employment How to apply: 1. Apply to Högskolan Dalarna, elementary teacher program grades 4–6. Applications are accepted from February 15 to March 16, 2026. Selection is based on upper secondary school grades or results from university entrance exams. Applications are submitted at antagning.se. Admission decisions in April 2026. Education begins autumn 2026, week 36. 2. Apply now for a position with Falu Municipality, but no later than April 24. Employment begins August 10, 2026. Remember that you must apply to both the municipality and the university, and that the application deadlines differ.
