Student Mentor (SI Leader) for the Public Health Science Program

University Library and Student Support (UB) is tasked with providing library services, learning support, and student support. Learning support includes promoting information literacy in education and offering an inspiring study environment for students. Student support encompasses assistance with academic writing, mathematics and statistics, study techniques, information searching, and reference management. The department also provides central academic advising, pedagogical support for students with permanent disabilities, and student health services. University Library and Student Support oversees a Supplemental Instruction (SI) project at Mid Sweden University. Supplemental Instruction involves trained SI leaders conducting regular study sessions for students in specific courses. These sessions focus on developing effective study techniques, improving understanding of course content, and building confidence before exams. UB staff train the SI leaders, coordinate the work, and provide mentoring support to the SI leaders. We are now recruiting 1-2 SI leaders for the Public Health Science Program for part-time employment at UB. Job Responsibilities We are looking for someone who wants to train as an SI leader and prepare and conduct study sessions within the Public Health Science Program online. As an SI leader, you will plan and conduct approximately one session per week lasting 1–2 hours for a group of approximately 5–15 students, report attendance, and participate in mentor meetings. The role also includes participating in development and evaluation work. Qualifications You are studying in the Public Health Science Program at Mid Sweden University and have completed at least the second term with passing grades in all courses. You are interested in pedagogy and in supporting fellow students in their learning. You are eager to develop your own leadership skills. Study sessions will be conducted online via Teams or Zoom, and you should have strong ability to manage these digital tools. You will be employed as a student mentor and must be qualified according to the requirements described in Mid Sweden University's employment regulations. Eligible to be employed as a student mentor is anyone admitted to education at the basic or advanced level. Personal Qualities To succeed in this role, we see that you are relationship-building, initiative-taking, and independent. You have good collaborative skills, communicate attentively, and work constructively with others. Furthermore, you are organized, structured, and have the ability to plan and prioritize your work efficiently. Great weight will be placed on personal qualities. Processing Processing of the employment follows the procedures specified in Chapter 5 of the Higher Education Ordinance and continues in accordance with Mid Sweden University's employment regulations. Employment and Start Date The employment comprises 7.5–15% of full-time (3–6 hours per week) beginning September 1, 2026, or according to agreement. Working hours are largely flexible, but sessions for study groups must be scheduled outside participants' regular class times. The assignment is determined term by term, but no later than January 31, 2027. The employment may be renewed in accordance with Chapter 5, Section 12 of the Higher Education Ordinance (1993:100).
